1804, Canongate Tollbooth, Edinburgh
A baby girl is found on the doorstep of the Canongate Tollbooth. A search is ordered for the mother, but she is never found. A foundling, she is taken in by the Canongate Kirk Session and baptised Beathag Canon.
14 years later, she is adopted by Master Tailor, Thomas Smith.
1828, Smiths Tailors, Edinburgh
Burke and Hare are supplying bodies to the dissection theatres that have the medical world in a frenzy, and something or someone is harvesting the creature kind in the old town's closes.
Beathag’s father is missing. Their tailor’s shop has been ransacked. A mysterious creature arrives looking for his old friend and requesting a new garment be made to disguise his true nature. Every garment Beathag makes takes something from her. This one may take too much.
